Working With The Spline Editor

Some items have splines or paths. These include: Mover Path, Mover Train, Minigolf Pipes, and Cameras. For those items, you will be using the Spline Editor.

What is a spline?

In Tower, a spline is curved path that is created (with math) from points in the world.

Spline Editor

To edit a spline path, items that support it will have a new tab labeled Spline. You can also edit paths by right clicking on the item and hitting Edit Spline.

Once you have done this, you'll see spline points show up, along with a preview of the path itself.

These points can be clicked on and moved and adjusted with the Gizmo Editor.

You'll notice each point has visual guides. The blue sphere is the point itself, the yellow arrow is the points roll indicator, the blue arrows are where the point will look towards next, and the white line and dots are the point's tangents.

Tangents?

Tangents are very important, they are used to determine the point's relation to another point, which is used to determine how to generate the curve.

To adjust the tangents, after clicking on a spline point, you can use the Scale Gizmo to resize them and the Rotate Gizmo to angle them.

Editor Features

When clicking on an individual spline point, the Manipulate window at the top right will appear and contain Spline Settings

  • Add Point: Adds a new point in front of the current point.
  • Align Point: Aligns the point to the point in front, used to straighten points.
  • Reset Roll: Resets the roll to default.
  • Delete Point: Removes the current point, while keeping the rest of the points.

Deleting Points

Sometimes you'll want to delete a point to improve the path or because you just really hate that point.

You can easily remove points in between points without any worry.

Click on the point you wish to delete. Then click on Delete Point in the Manipulate Window. You can also delete points by pressing the Delete key

Saving Splines

When you are done editing the spline, you MUST hit Finish & Save (or Save Spline with the right click menu) to submit the spline to the host and save the data.

If you do not do this, other players will not see the path update and you will lose your spline data.

Exporting/Importing Paths

You can also Export Paths to duplicate them to other Movers/Items, or to share with the community!

The Export Path button will export the Path to your clipboard. You can also import paths by copying them into your clipboard and clicking on Import Path.

Troubleshooting: How To Fix a Kink

Sometimes the spline might create a kink that twists up the curve of the path.

This can be resolved by:

  • Clicking on the spline point
  • Select Reset Roll
  • Select Align Point
  • Optional: Rotate the point around a little more to finalize the curve you want.
